TIME AWAY FROM YOUR COMFORT ZONE
(Look of the Week)
I breathe a sigh of relief as I open the TOPSHOP parcel. My heart flutters as I peel away the layers of packing paper- not an unfamiliar feeling for most girls indulging in a little online retail therapy.
I finally found what I’ve been pining over for the past month- a faux fur stole in an electrifying color. I feel a bit triumphant as I wrap it across my shoulders. But almost simultaneously, I feel that buyer’s remorse creeping in. I immediately tell myself:
“SNAP OUT OF IT! GREAT THINGS NEVER CAME FROM COMFORT ZONES!”
This is the spectacle that I am all too familiar with. It’s the strain between playing it safe or going full-on- balls –to-the-wall fashion killer. Granted the stole was my compromise to a full on blue faux fur coat (paying homage to Lil Kim are we?) But the dilemma I so often face has got me thinking. Does anyone have those hard fashion limits they just won’t cross — our so called Fashion Comfort Zone?

No matter how much we covet the street style photos of seemingly poised women owning their style- I’ll let you in on a little secret:
“No matter how stylish they may seem, most women have reservations regarding trying new things.”
Apart from knowing what works for your body, the best remedy for this is a gradual introduction of said “phobia,” gently pushing your limits each time – remembering you’re in control here. Thus this time next year, I will undoubtedly look like Big Bird and will love every minute of it!
